Late Dr. Joseph E Varghese

Dr. Joseph E. Varghese, who became blind at the age of 6, was educated in India, Canada and the USA. He earned two Masters Degrees in History and in Counseling and Guidance. He got his doctorate (Ed.D) in Special Education and Administration and Counseling from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA.

In 1989 he returned to India and founded AAII. He was passionate about helping the disadvantaged lead more productive lives and devoted the remainder of his life to this cause.

AAII’s board of directors is the organization's governing body elected by the members at an annual meeting. All members are responsible for taking forward AAII’s vision, mission, goals and programs.

 
     
  Chandravilas Ramachandran Sudhi
 
 

Sudhi retired as the Deputy General Manager of a leading multinational company.

He has 40 years experience in maintenance, engineering projects, production and corporate engineering functions in steel plants, tyre plants and toy factories.

  Ms. Sunu Mathew

 
 

Ms. Sunu Mathew is the CEO of a travel agency.

She received her Bachelor's degree in Economics from Maharajas College for Women in 1992 and then did a course in Airline Management. She was the captain of the Kerala State cricket team and in 1989 was adjudged the Best Cadet of Kerala and ranked the third in the country.

  Sabin Iqbal

 
 

Sabin Iqbal is working as a journalist for nearly two decades.

He has done his post graduation in English Language and Literature from the Institute of English, Kerala University.
He is married to Mariam and they are blessed with two children .

  Dr. P.V.George

 
 

Lt. Col (Dr.) P.V. George was the Deputy Director of Medical Services in the Armed Forces, Sultanate of Oman. He received his M.B, B.S degree from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and his Diploma in Acupuncture from China.

He is presently the President of the Trivandrum Chapter of the Haggai Institute and the faculty member of the Baptist Theological Seminary in Trivandrum.

He is married to Dr. Sheela George, a medical doctor who has served both in India and overseas. They are blessed with two children.

   
 
  Dr. Shirley Stewart

 
 

Dr. Shirley Stewart is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at a leading college in Trivandrum. She is also the State Youth Coordinator for the Red Cross.

She has done her doctorate in English literature from the University of Kerala.

  Dr. Roy Joseph

 
 

Dr. Roy Joseph is a scientist at the Sree Chithra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum.

He has earned two Masters degrees - in Polymer Chemistry and in Polymer Technology. He earned a Commonwealth Scholarship to do his doctorate in Biomedical Materials from the University of London. He has published 58 scientific papers and has two patents in his name.

Mr. Sam T. Varghese

 

Mr. Sam T. Varghese is a renowned social worker. He is involved in providing palliative care for destitute patients suffering from terminal diseases. He is also an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker.

  Ms. Connie Newton

 
 

Ms. Connie Newton is the Executive Director of AAII.

She received her Bachelor's degree with honors in Psychology and her Masters in Administration & Management.
She has also earned a Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication and a Higher Diploma in Software Applications.

Her father, Joseph George, was the Administrative Officer of the South East Asia Region in the World Health Organization. He started a charity to help the disadvantaged and she worked closely with her father in its running. Seeing the changes it brought about in the children made her develop a passion for this line of work.

She is married to Dr Antony Newton who is a Senior Consultant Physician in a leading hospital in Trivandrum. They are blessed with a son. She can be contacted at connie.aaii@gmail.com.

   
 
  Dr. Joseph K. Antony

 
 

Dr. Joseph Antony is the President of AAII. He was the former Principal at the Loyola College of Social Sciences, Trivandrum. He holds a doctorate in Social Work.

Dr. Joseph also works as a trainer and is a consultant in Disability Management. He is involved in facilitating the evaluation and planning of government and NGO disability projects.

ADVISORS TO THE BOARD
  Mr. Arthur Jansen
 
 

Mr. Arthur Jansen studied Dutch and criminal law in Tilburg, Netherlands. As a public servant he has worked in the Welfare Department of the provincial government of Limburg, Netherlands.

He worked as a senior consultant for a multinational BDO until he founded his own company, Arthur Jansen Advies (AJA), in 1996. AJA is active in the field of social development, health care and education.

He is a member of the board of several social and cultural NGO’s. He has founded the Santhosham Foundation in the Netherlands with the singular goal of raising funds for Ability Aids India International.

  Fr. Joye James
 
 

Fr. Joye James is the Manager & Rector of the Loyola College & Director of the Loyola Extension Services. He has done his Masters in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and has also received a certificate in Counseling.

He retired as an Associate Professor of Social Work from the Loyola College in 2008.

He is currently the Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, Trivandrum and the Director of the Childline Nodal Agency.

   
 
  Dr. A. Philipose
 
 

Dr. A. Philipose is the Deputy Director of the Central Social Welfare Board. He is also the Secretary of the Kerala State Social Welfare Board, Trivandrum. He holds a doctorate in Social Work.

He is a leading consultant in Social Development and Disability Management.
